Year Two
For children aged 6-7
Year Two targets all link and overlap across the curriculum. The children are taught to organise themselves and to develop responsibility, confidence, observational skills, and good presentation. In English, the children will be building on their reading and writing skills, with focus on speaking and listening, sharing and extended learning through talk, listening stamina, knowledge about spoken language, extending their reading into broader contemporary and non-fiction areas, writing, and punctuation. In maths, the children will have gathered enough appropriate experience to assist them in Using and Applying Mathematics in the areas of problem solving, number and the number system, money, fractions, patterns, calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, solving numerical problems. The topics of Science, History, Geography, Arts & Crafts, ICT, PSHCE, Music, Games & PE, are all well served in a broad Year Two curriculum. In Jewish Studies, the children gain an understanding of the Tefillah so that it becomes more relevant and meaningful to them. They practice Hebrew Reading each day. A new and exciting addition to the curriculum is Chumash, which the children learn in preparation for Chagigat HaChumash. The children learn Hebrew Script and continue with Parashat Hashavua which is reinforced through role-play and related activities. In Jewish Living the children learn about the Chagim and during the course of the year examine a range of Mitzvot to include Kashrut, Shabbat, Berachot and the Jewish Calendar
