Naima JPS children take a trip back to Ancient Egypt

Children of Year 6 of the Naima Jewish Preparatory School in Maida Vale flew back in time to Ancient Egypt last Thursday when they took part in a living history workshop on Ancient Egypt. Under the guidance of Penny Bright of ‘History Off the Page' and Year 6 teacher Julie Partridge, the children dressed up in Egyptian costume and took part in role-playing scenes from the lives of slaves in Ancient Egypt. Preparing the Pharoah's tomb to ensure for him the best possible experience in the afterlife, the children were kept busy pressing olive oil for tomb lamps, grinding charcoal for ink with which they wrote hieroglyphic notes on papyrus, carving hieroglyphics from stone, and embalming pegs to make miniature mummies.

"That was really fun!" enthused a Year 6 boy who had just finished making charcoal ink and writing notes on a papyrus. "It was a good experience from Egyptian times."
