Gibraltar Trip

Last week, Year Six returned to school after spending an exciting and educational few days in Spain and Gibraltar.

Year Six spent a day in the ancient city of Cordoba, birthplace of the Sephardi Commentator the Rambam.  Whilst there, they visited the 700 year old former Synagogue where they read some Tehillim and sang some Hebrew songs, adding new voices to the echoes of Jewish History.  They also visited the statue of the Rambam that stands proudly in Tiberiadus Square.  Whilst there, the pupils studied some of the Rambam's teachings on the subject of Prayer.

The pupils spent a morning both on and in the Rock of Gibraltar.  They met with the ever-popular Barbary apes that reside on the Rock, explored the Second World War Tunnels, linking to their school history lessons based on the Second World War, and were suitably impressed by the breath-taking St Michael's Cave, adorned with stalagmites and stalactites.  They also visited the Old Jewish Cemetery on the Rock, where they learned about some of the former Rabbis of Gibraltar.

A beautiful Shabbat was spent in Gibraltar, where the pupils received an exceptionally warm welcome from the wonderfully hospitable community there.  A delicious Shabbat dinner was eaten with Family Levy, grandparents of one of the pupils, and former Mayor of Gibraltar.  Here, the children were honoured and privileged to view the wonderful photo gallery of the Levy's, attesting to their long and honourable service to both the Britain community and the Jewish community.

On a lighter note, Year Six enjoyed a trip on the Dolphin Safari where they were entertained by the huge number of dolphins that swam freely alongside the boat, dipping and diving for the pupils' delight.  The last evening was spent at the Tivoli Theme Park where pupils overcame their fear to ride the scariest rides, bump the bumpiest cars and roll around on the roller coaster.

All pupils returned safely, having enjoyed a fantastic week together and having grown in responsiblity, group spirit and independence.
